Gale Crater
Mars's Gale Crater from space. View of the Martian surface as seen from space, showing the Gale Crater (centre left). This crater was caused by an asteroid impact millions of years ago. It is the scheduled landing site for NASA's Curiosity rover, which is on a mission to determine if Mars is, or was ever, able to support microbial life. Landing is planned for the night of the 5th to 6th August 2012.
