Sediment Pattern Seen by Mars Global Surveyor
The uniform layering pattern seen here suggests that the deposition of the layers in Candor Chasma was interrupted at regular intervals. Patterns like this, when found on Earth, usually indicate the presence of sediment deposited in dynamic, energetic, underwater environments.
