Archaeopteryx fossil
25 May 1985 --- Fossil remains of Archaeopteryx, the flying reptile with feathers or the earliest known bird, found in the fine-grained limestones of the late Jurassic period (195 to 135 m.y.) at Solenhofen, Bavaria. Archaeopteryx, seen as the link between reptile and bird, had many of the features of a small dinosaur with the addition of feathers and combined reptilian and birdlike claws on its wings. It was about the size of a crow. --- Image by © Science Photo Library/Corbis
